Quantification of right ventricular function from short-axis displacement-encoded images

چکیده
Background Right ventricular (RV) function is important in many disease states, but is difficult to quantify from routine MR imaging. Previous work has shown that long-axis deformation/strain is the most critical contributor to global RV function; however, short-axis datasets allow for better coverage of the RV. Thus it would be ideal to be able to quantify RV long-axis function using shortaxis slice orientations. We hypothesized that a stack of three-dimensional (3D) displacement encoded (DENSE) images could reliably quantify longitudinal deformation of the RV to overcome the need for acquiring additional long-axis views of the RV.

Measurement of Left Ventricular Myocardium Wall Instantaneous Motions with Echocardiographic Sequence Images
Background & Aims: One of the important aims of quantitative cardiac image processing is the clarification of myocardial motions in order to derive biomechanical behavior of the heart in the disease condition. In this study we presented a computerized analysis method for detecting the instantaneous myocardial changes by using 2D echocardiography images. Methods: The analysis was performed on th...
متن کاملCardiac magnetic resonance analysis of right ventricular function: comparison of quantification in the short-axis and 4-chamber planes.
OBJECTIVE To compare the methods of right ventricle segmentation in the short-axis and 4-chamber planes in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and to correlate the findings with those of the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) method in echocardiography. MATERIAL AND METHODS We used a 1.5T MRI scanner to study 26 patients with diverse cardiovascular diseases. In all MRI studies,...
متن کاملMRI of Longitudinal Myocardial Strain using Multislice Cine DENSE with Through-plane Displacement Encoding
Introduction Cine DENSE (Displacement Encoding with Stimulated Echoes) is a quantitative MRI method for imaging myocardial displacement and strain. Typically, cine DENSE images of the heart are acquired in a short-axis plane, and the in-plane circumferential and radial displacements and strains are measured. However, quantitative imaging of longitudinal myocardial motion is also important, as i...
متن کاملQuantification of Partial Volume Effects in Salivary Glands SPECT Images after Radiation Therapy of Head and Neck Tumors
Introduction: Radical radiation therapy of head and neck cancers may injure the salivary glands and reduce their function. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images maybe used to evaluate function post-therapy. However, accurate quantification is hindered by the partial volume effects (PVEs). The present study involved the introduction of a PVEs quantif...
متن کاملDetermination of right atrial and right ventricular size by two-dimensional echocardiography.
No data are available on determining right atrial and right ventricular size by two-dimensional echocardiography. We performed two-dimensional echocardiograms on eight human right-heart casts obtained at autopsy and on 50 patients who underwent complete left- and right-heart catheterization. Measurement of individual dimensions of the long and short axes of the right atrium and ventricle from r...
